BIOGRAPHY

Elena Carozzi was born in Milan in 1967.

Elena grew up in an environment in which art and decoration formed a rich humus of inspiration; she started her own creative journey in Milan, where she collaborated with architect Roberto Peregalli in interior decoration.

In 1996 Elena moved to Sarzana, in Liguria. Having regularly been at the studio of her grandfather Gian Carozzi – who was a founder of the Spatial movement in the 50’s, together with Lucio Fontana – she was drawn to painting. Colour, light and matter became the pillars of her research into pictorial form.

Vuillard is a fundamental point of reference in her research – an experience going beyond mere definitions of genre, while maintaining a vital relationship with her origins of inspiration.

In 2015, together with fellow artists Beatrice Meoni, Phillippa Peckham, Maja Thommen and Silvia Vendramel, she started a project based on sharing their respective artistic languages, which gave life to a series of exhibitions, where each artist’s works are intertwined in the “whole” of the exhibit itself, to revitalize the sense of the collective exposure as a place for sharing, for authorship or as a place for listening and for a different subjectivity.

Over recent years, hand painted wallpapers has become another form of linguistic contamination and visual suggestion; a blending of painting and decorative experience.
